Bass case

Postby STRMan » Thu Mar 28, 2013 10:29 am

I'm getting very frustrated. I have an early 1980's Aria Pro II SB-700 bass guitar. I can't find a bass case that will fit it. I've been to all of the local music stores and searched the internet. Its lower bout is a lot larger than that of a P or J bass. I want either a true hard shell case, or one of those with a soft cover over a rigid foam core, not a glorified padded gig bag. Any ideas where I might find one?

Paul, I know less about bass than I know about guitar (which is scary), but if the bout is larger than a typical P or Jazz, I was wondering if a case designed for Fender's offset basses--like a Bass VI or Jazzmaster Bass might work?

I guarantee you SKB has a HSC that will fit. It's juts a matter of finding the right one. Hard to do on-line. Another option is a flight case, which is one size fits all. The foam squeezes the bass safely inside. Or a Coffin case.

I'll ask around though Paul.

I hadn't thought of SKB. I've owned a couple of rack cases made by them. A coffin case seems, so, goth, but I'll look into that too.

Aria has reissued my bass, but they have only one distributor in the country, and they are a Pacific coast outfit. I'm guessing if they have a case to fit it (it is not listed in their web site), it will be mighty pricy.

SKB was a bust. My lower bout is 14.25 inches wide and their cases are all smaller than that.

The Coffin Undertaker Bass case will work. Guitar Center carries them, and the closest one if a little under an hour from here. It's only $89. I just never thought about getting a coffin shaped case before. Maybe I'll switch from Rockabilly to Psychobilly.

Or "Hellbilly". For good examples of Hellbilly, check out Joe Buck ( Hank IIIs bass player) and his side project " Joe Buck Yourself".
